Chrysanthemum

Monday, March 14 | Cut Flower Profiles, Cut Flowers

The chrysanthemum derives its name from the Greek ‘krus anthemon’ meaning gold flower.  Today, chrysanthemums are available in yellows, pinks, purples, green and white.  Many novelty colored mums such as blue and red are created by dip or stem dying the flowers.  The plant originated in China and Japan where it became an important symbol in both countries’ cultures.  Feng Shui adherents believe the Chrysanthemum brings laughter and happiness into the home.  Chrysanthemums come in three main flower types: daisy, cushion and button.  All three types are very long lasting with vase lives of two weeks or more.
